We’re heading towards Valentine’s Day, the time to buy flowers and chocolates, cook a romantic dinner or go out for that special meal before settling down for cuddles on the sofa with Marvin Gaye playing in the background.
But what about the single people? What do they do for Valentines when it is shoved down your throat that you have no-one. Everywhere you go in the days beforehand all you can hear are the likes of Teddy Pendergrass, Sade or modern equivalents like Adele or god forbid Dido playing in the background as events are publicised. What are you meant to think or do when putting the sausage and mash microwave meal for one on to cook and turn on the tv to find all the music channels are playing “50 songs for lovers”?
I think that at this time of year that singletons should celebrate the fact that they are single. No restrictions, no nagging, no pressure to go out and spend money at inflated prices. Get out there and enjoy it y’all! Host a party and invite all your single friends. Don’t feel left out, instead just celebrate your life and the happiness in it.
Music wise there hasn’t been many songs celebrating the single life (hang on that’s one for the list) in fact in the whole history of the charts there has only been a handful of songs to hit the Top 40… it doesn’t really inspire confidence does it compared to how many tracks are about love…
But you know what, blow it. Single and loving it they say, so get your friends round and while you see all the couples slinking home after paying £50 for 2 plates of spaghetti carbanora surrounded by loads of other couples doing the same then crank up the volume and let them hear these beauties!
